Authentication Vs Authorization

“Authenticating users” means determining a user really is who he or she says (verifying the identity of a user). This is often done using a shared secret such as a password.

“Authorizing users” means granting or restricting access to a specific user who has identified himself or herself. For example, clients in an administrative role are often granted more access than clients in a role as simple users.

Which Is Better: Control or WebControl?

The Control class in the System.Web.UI namespace is the base class for all server controls. It provides the properties, methods, and events shared by all web controls. The WebControl class in the System.Web.UI.WebControls namespace derives from the Control class and adds style properties such as Font, Forecolor, and Backcolor. In addition, it provides skin and theme features.

Microsoft recommends deriving from the Control class if your custom control contains no user interface elements. But if your custom control provides a user interface, you should derive from the WebControl class.

What Is Ajax?

Ajax stands for Asynchronous Javascript And XML. Although strictly speaking Ajax itself is not a technology, it mixes well-known programming techniques in an uncommon way to enable web developers to build Internet applications with much more appealing user interfaces than those to which we have become accustomed.

When using popular desktop applications, we expect the results of our work to be made available immediately, without fuss, and without us having to wait for the whole screen to be redrawn by the program.

While using a spreadsheet such as Excel, for instance, we expect the changes we make in one cell to propagate immediately through the neighboring cells while we continue to type, scroll the page, or use the mouse.

Unfortunately, this sort of interaction has seldom been available to users of web-based applications. Much more common is the experience of entering data into form fields, clicking on a button or link, and then sitting back while the page slowly reloads to exhibit the results of the request.

In addition, we often find that the majority of the reloaded page consists of elements that are identical to those of the previous page and that have therefore been reloaded unnecessarily; background images, logos, and menus are frequent offenders.

Ajax promises us a solution to this problem. By working as an extra layer between the user's browser and the web server, Ajax handles server communications in the background, submitting server requests and processing the returned data.

The results may then be integrated seamlessly into the page being viewed, without that page needing to be refreshed or a new one loaded.

In Ajax applications, such server requests are not necessarily synchronized with user actions such as clicking on buttons or links.

A well-written Ajax application may already have asked of the server, and received, the data required by the userperhaps before the user even knew she wanted it.

This is the meaning of the asynchronous part of the Ajax acronym.

The parts of an Ajax application that happen "under the hood" of the user's browser, such as sending server queries and dealing with the returned data, are written in JavaScript, and XML is an increasingly popular means of coding and transferring formatted information used by Ajax to efficiently transfer data between server and client.

Keep It Short & Simple

One of the most memorable case studies on Japanese management was the case of the empty soap box, which happened in one of Japan's biggest cosmetics companies. The company received a complaint that a consumer had bought a soap box that was empty. Immediately the thorities isolated the problem to the assembly line, which transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery department. For some reason, one soap box went through the assembly line empty. Management asked its engineers to solve the problem. Post-haste,

Solution A

the engineers worked hard to devise an X-ray machine with high-resolution monitors manned by two people to watch all the soap boxes that passed through the line to make sure they were not empty. No doubt, they worked hard and they worked fast but they spent whoopee amount to do so

Solution B

But when a rank-and-file employee in a small company was posed with the same problem, he did not get into complications of X-rays, etc but instead came out with another solution. He bought a strong industrial electric fan and pointed it at the assembly line. He switched the fan on, and as each soap box passed the fan, it simply blew the empty boxes out of the line.

Moral of the story:
" Keep It Short & Simple" !! i.e. always look for simple solutions.
Devise the simplest possible solution that solves the problem. So, learn to focus on solutions not on problems

Don't after a Meal

Don't smoke
Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette after meal is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes (chances of cancer is higher).
Don't eat fruits immediately
Immediately eating fruits after meals will cause stomach to be bloated with air. Therefore take fruit 1-2 hr after meal or 1hr before meal.
Don't drink tea
Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the Protein content in the food we consume to be hardened thus difficult to digest.
Don't loosen your belt
Loosening the belt after a meal will easily cause the intestine to be twisted & blocked.
Don't bathe
Bathing will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.
Don't walk about
People always say that after a meal walk a hundred steps and you will live till 99. In actual fact this is not true. Walking will cause the digestive system to be unable to absorb the nutrition from the food we intake.
Don't sleep immediately
The food we intake will not be able to digest properly. Thus will lead to gastric & infection in our intestine.

What is ADO.NET?

ADO.NET is the new database technology of the .NET (Dot Net) platform, and it builds on Microsoft ActiveX® Data Objects (ADO).

You can use ADO.NET to access data by using the new .NET Framework data providers which are:

- Data Provider for SQL Server (System.Data.SqlClient).
- Data Provider for OLEDB (System.Data.OleDb).
- Data Provider for ODBC (System.Data.Odbc).
- Data Provider for Oracle (System.Data.OracleClient).

ADO.NET is a set of classes that expose data access services to the .NET developer. The ADO.NET classes are found in System.Data.dll and are integrated with the XML classes in System.Xml.dll.

There are two central components of ADO.NET classes: the DataSet, and the .NET Framework Data Provider.

Data Provider is a set of components including:

- the Connection object (SqlConnection, OleDbConnection, OdbcConnection, OracleConnection)
- the Command object (SqlCommand, OleDbCommand, OdbcCommand, OracleCommand)
- the DataReader object (SqlDataReader, OleDbDataReader, OdbcDataReader, OracleDataReader)
- and the DataAdapter object (SqlDataAdapter, OleDbDataAdapter, OdbcDataAdapter, OracleDataAdapter).

ADO.NET is an integral part of the .NET Compact Framework, providing access to relational data, XML documents, and application data. ADO.NET supports a variety of development needs. You can create database-client applications and middle-tier business objects used by applications, tools, languages or Internet browsers.

ADO.NET defines DataSet and DataTable objects which are optimized for moving disconnected sets of data across intranets and Internets, including through firewalls. It also includes the traditional Connection and Command objects, as well as an object called a DataReader that resembles a forward-only, read-only ADO recordset. If you create a new application, your application requires some form of data access most of the time.

ADO.NET provides data access services in the Microsoft .NET platform.

DataSet object represents a disconnected cache of data which is made up of DataTables and DataRelations that represent the result of the command.

ADO is a language-neutral object model that is the keystone of Microsoft's Universal Data Access strategy.

World's greatest magician

Three world famous magicians were in the bar drinking and boasting about
their achievements.

The first one said," During my latest show, I made three women from the
audience disappear, it was so convincing that their relatives started
panicking, no one could find the trick"

The second one said, " Hey, that is nothing, during one of my open air
shows I made the Municipality building disappear and the entire town was
searching for it"

The third one sighed and said," Both of you are so local, I went to Paris
and made the Eiffel Tower disappear for a full one hour, it was live on the
TV, entire France was searching for the building & no one had a clue".

Just then an Indian walked into the bar and the three magicians suddenly
turned quiet, gave each other fugitive glances and started to slip towards
the door.

A Bartender watching this got curious and asked one of the magicians, "Hey
what happened ? Who is that guy ? "

One of the magicians whispered, "He is the World's greatest magician, he
has done the biggest disappearing trick of all times, we are all mere
amateurs compared with what he has done. His name is Ramalinga Raju . He
has made USD 1.5 billion disappear from his company's balance sheet in front
of everyone's eyes, and the entire world is still looking for it.

RadWindow for ASP.NET AJAX

RadWindow implements a pop-up window that displays content from an external source (another URL).

You can use this control for a pop-up dialog or tool box, or simply as a secondary window for displaying additional content.

Pop-up windows can be modal (disabling the rest of the page) or nonmodal (allowing the user to interact with the rest of the page while the pop-up is showing).

You have full control over what causes windows to appear, where they appear, and what size they start at. By specifying the icons that appear in the title bar, you can let users minimize, maximize, resize, move, pin, and close RadWindow controls with no coding on your part.

If you don't want to allow users these capabilities, you can remove any or all of the controls from the title bar, or even hide the title bar entirely.

Unlike ordinary browser pop-up windows, RadWindow objects are not suppressed by the Windows XP SP2 popup blocker mechanism.

Also unlike browser windows, you can minimize RadWindow pop-ups into minimization zones that you add to the parent window.

RadWindowManager for ASP.NET AJAX

If your Web application uses multiple pop-up Windows, you can organize them using RadWindowManager.

By using RadWindowManager, your application also has access to "rad" versions of the alert, confirm, and prompt pop-ups, so that you can control the appearance of these useful dialogs instead of relying on the built-in browser versions.

Unlike the built-in browser versions, which are limited to displaying simple text, you can even add HTML content to the "rad" pop-ups

RadSplitter for ASP.NET AJAX

RadSplitter also creates separate regions for displaying content to users. Unlike RadWindow and RadDock, however, the content regions that RadSplitter uses are not pop-up windows.

Instead, they are resizable frames, called panes, that divide up a region of the Web page. The splitter can be configured to lay out its panes either horizontally or vertically.

By adding split bars between the panes, you can enable the user to resize panes in the browser.

Alternately, you can leave out the split bars, to create a static layout of separate panes on your Web page.

In a splitter that contains split bars, individual panes can be "locked", so that they are not resizable along with the other panes of the splitter.

Panes can display content from an external URL, like RadWindow, or content that is loaded with the Web page, like RadDock.

The screenshot below shows a splitter that displays a radio button list that is loaded with the Web page in the left pane, and content from an external Web site in the right pane:

Panes that load their content with the Web page can hold any HTML elements, even another splitter.

By nesting splitters with alternating horizontal and vertical orientations, you can create arbitrarily complex layouts.

JeniuS - universal file organizer

JeniuS is an universal file organizer and is the main element in the JeniuS programs suite. It lets you organize your files and find them immediately when you need them.
Files can be inserted into user-defined albums (i.e.: a music files collection) or into automatically generated ones. For every album you can specify the artist's name, a short description, an image (i.e.: the CD cover or the movie poster), the year and the gender.

SplitFile - Chopping Tool

SplitFile's goal is to split big file in smaller segments to be able to store them in floppy disks or CDs.

The main feature if compared to other programs like this, is the ability to support very large files and to being configured to increase performances if used with fast disks.

- A lot of size preset: not only standard ones (floppy and CD-R) but also uncommon ones (ZIP disk, 800MB CD-R, DVD-R)
- You can choose to split the file according to the desiderated size or to the number of parts you need
- Several units selectable (from bytes to GB). Only SplitFile let you split GB of data!
- You can choose the read/write buffer to improve performances (SplitFile's exlusive feauture)
- You can pause the task
- Two (2) join methods: through the Graphical User Interface ( GUI ) of this program, or through an executable file that anyone can use, even if they do not have SplitFile.
- You can choose to be asked before overwriting a file that already exists
- You can directly Split/Join the files in a destination folder different from the source one(to easily find the files) and also on different drives (to speed up the process)
- It is freeware

Other methods include the one defined in the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual of the US Department of Defence and overwriting with pseudorandom data. You can also define your own overwriting methods.

Eraser is an advanced security tool for Windows which allows you to completely remove sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it several times with carefully selected patterns. Works with Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Server 2008.

Audiograbber - Digital Audio Copier

Audiograbber is a beautiful piece of software that grabs digital audio from cd's. It copies the audio digitally-not through the soundcard-which enables you to make perfect copies of the originals.

It can even perform a test to see that the copies really are perfect. Audiograbber can also automatically normalize the music, delete silence from the start and/or end of tracks, and send them to a variety or external MP3 encoders, such as Fraunhofers L3enc, or even use some MP3/WMA encoders internally for automatic creation of MP3's.

Audiograbber can download and upload disc info from freedb, an Internet compact disc database.

You can even record your vinyl LP's or cassette tapes with Audiograbber and make wav's or MP3's of them. There are a lot more functions in Audiograbber, but to put it simply: Audiograbber has the most features one can wish from such a program!

Exact Audio Copy

Exact Audio Copy is a so called audio grabber for audio CDs using standard CD and DVD-ROM drives. The main differences between EAC and most other audio grabbers are :

-It is free (for non-commercial purposes)
-It works with a technology, which reads audio CDs almost perfectly.

If there are any errors that can’t be corrected, it will tell you on which time position the (possible) distortion occurred, so you could easily control it with e.g. the media player.

With other audio grabbers you usually need to listen to every grabbed wave because they only do jitter correction. Scratched CDs read on CD-ROM drives often produce distortions. But listening to every extracted audio track is a waste of time. Exact Audio Copy conquer these problems by making use of several technologies like multi-reading with verify and AccurateRip.

Caching in

ASP.NET gives you the ability to cache the output of pages or portions of pages in memory to improve performance.

The main reason to cache is to reduce the latency and increase the scalability of an application while reducing the server resources required to deliver its page content.

Latency is a measure of the time it takes for an application to respond to a user request. Scalability is the ability of an application to handle increased numbers of users.

If a page is cached on the server, the rendered HTML stored in memory is served instead of a freshly generated page from the server. Because it takes less time for the client to get the page and display it, your web site will seem more responsive.

If pages are completely static, deciding to cache them is a no-brainer. But the decision gets trickier if pages must vary their content in response to one of the following:

-Query string parameters

-Client browser type (e.g., Internet Explorer, Netscape, and so on)

-Custom parameters

-Database content

Toaster Manufacturing : Management Jokes - 4

If the Franklin Mint made toasters...
Every month, you would receive another lovely hand-crafted piece of
your authentic hand-crafted Civil War pewter toaster.

If Coca Cola made toasters...
They'd be capable of making the original, diet and new improved toast
as long as you bought your bread in the inconvenient six-pack.

If Microsoft made toasters...
Every time you bought a loaf of bread, you would have to buy a toaster.
You wouldn't have to take the toaster, but you'd still have to pay for it
anyway. Toaster'95 would weigh 15000 pounds (hence requiring a
reinforced steel countertop), draw enough electricity to power a small
city, take up 95% of the space in your kitchen, would claim to be the
first toaster that lets you control how light or dark you want your toast
to be, and would secretly interrogate your other appliances to find out
who made them. Everyone would hate Microsoft toasters, but
nonetheless would buy them since most of the good bread only works
with their toasters.

If Apple made toasters...
It would do everything the Microsoft toaster does, but 5 years earlier....
but only the original bread that came from the manufacturer would
work in it....when you needed to buy more.... you needed a different
toaster.... from somebody else (but wait, new plans at Apple indicate
that you will be able to by that different toaster from them ... but of
course it won't use the same bread as the original. And as a matter of
fact.. won't operate anything like the old one... but they say that's

If The Rand Corporation made toasters...
It would be a large, perfectly smooth and seamless black cube. Every
morning there would be a piece of toast on top of it. Their service
department would have an unlisted phone number, and the blueprints
for the box would be highly classified government documents. The XFiles
would have an episode about it.

If the NSA made toasters...
Your toaster would have a secret trap door that only the NSA could
access in case they needed to get at your toast for reasons of national

If Sony made toasters...
The ToastMan, which would be barely larger than the single piece of
bread it is meant to toast, can be conveniently attached to your belt.

If Timex made toasters...
They would be cheap and small quartz-crystal wrist toasters that take a
licking and keep on toasting.

If Fisher Price made toasters...
"Baby's First Toaster" would have a hand-crank that you turn to toast
the bread that pops up like a Jack-in-the-box.

Toaster Manufacturing : Management Jokes - 2

Does DEC still make toasters?...
They made good toasters in the '80s, didn't they?

If Hewlett-Packard made toasters...
They would market the Reverse Polish Toaster, which takes in toast and
gives you regular bread.

If Tandem made toasters...
You could make toast 24 hours a day, and if a piece got burned the
toaster would automatically toast you a new one.

If Thinking Machines made toasters...
You would be able to toast 64,000 pieces of bread at the same time.

If Cray made toasters...
They would cost $16 million but would be faster than any other singleslice
toaster in the world.

Toaster Manufacturing : Management Jokes - 1

If IBM made toasters...
They would want one big toaster where people bring bread to be
submitted for overnight toasting. IBM would claim a worldwide market
for five, maybe six toasters.

If Xerox made toasters...
You could toast one-sided or double-sided. Successive slices would get
lighter and lighter. The toaster would jam your bread for you.

If Radio Shack made toasters...
The staff would sell you a toaster, but not know anything about it. Or
you could buy all the parts to build your own toaster.

If Oracle made toasters...
They'd claim their toaster was compatible with all brands and styles of
bread, but when you got it home you'd discover the Bagel Engine was
still in development, the Croissant Extension was three years away, and
that indeed the whole appliance was just blowing smoke.

If Sun made toasters...

When I do something without being told, I am trying to be smart.
When my boss does the same, he's showing initiative.
When I please my boss, I'm kissing up.

Insurance Professionals : Jokes

On the first day God made the sun; so the Devil countered and created sunburn.

On the second day God created sex, and in response the Devil created marriage.

On the third day, God made an insurance broker, and the Devil was stumped.

After much consideration, he created a second broker.

A smart insurance company executive and an honest broker were seen
walking down the street with Santa Claus.

They all spotted a $50 bill laying right in the middle of the side walk
Who picked it up?

Santa did...a smart insurance executive and an honest broker are
figments of your imagination!

just don't know what the the truth is!

Old accountants never die; they just lose their balance.
Old underwriters, on the other hand, just take less risks.

When risk managers are right, they'll always let you know their entirely right.
When wrong, RMs will only let know they're mostly right.

you could only save one of them, which would you do first?
Go to lunch; or Read the paper.

how long is a thousand years?"

million Rupees?"
