Tamil computing: the present and the future

Tamil computing: the present and the future M. Anandakrishnan

"The number of Tamil websites has become large, and it is growing.
These include those of Tamil newspapers and magazines and e-journals.
Then there are greeting cards, matrimonial sites, on-line learning
resources, those sites devoted to cookery, beauty tips, health issues,
songs, movies, tourism information, games, puzzles and so on, in

Unicode has become a world standard and many computer applications
have provided Unicode support so that multilingual text can be

At the same time, there are many lingering problems. Information
Technology, in respect of the use of Tamil on computers, should
necessarily aim to reach all the people so as to give them the
benefits of this new technological power. People should be able to use
computers to deal with information given in Tamil without knowledge of
English on the part of the user. Some of the current research and
development efforts address such issues.

The Tamil community is suddenly waking up to all the missed
opportunities after realising how far Tamil language is falling behind
many other languages. This is evident from the degree of enthusiasm
and cooperation seen in putting together the Tamil Internet Conference
(TIC-2010) in Coimbatore to be held in conjunction with the World
Classical Tamil Conference, thanks to the unstinted support from the
Government of Tamil Nadu. A large number of papers submitted to
TIC-2010, especially from Tamil Nadu, address almost all of the
advanced concepts. Nearly 400 international experts will discuss some
150 research papers dealing with a range of topics involving
contemporary developments in Tamil computing."

"One of the basic objectives of TIC-2010 is to stimulate the interest
of the younger generation in Tamil computing. The enthusiastic
response from school and college students to the Tamil computing
competition and Wikipedia has been encouraging. This needs to be
sustained and expanded. The special participatory exposition of Tamil
computing and Internet developments, including e-governance, Tamil
periodicals, Tamil software, Tamil-related efforts of several
multinational companies and so on are expected to attract the interest
of lakhs of visitors.

The enthusiasm and the level of expectations are evident. The spirit
of cooperation needs to be sustained.

M. Anandakrishnan"

Globalized World - True Story

It's been 18 years since I joined Volvo, a Swedish company. Working for them has proven to be an interesting experience. Any project here takes 2 years to be finalized, even if the idea is simple and brilliant. It's a rule.

Globalized processes have caused in us (all over the world) a general sense of searching for immediate results.. Therefore, we have come t!o posses a need to see immediate results. This contrasts greatly with the slow movements of the Swedish. They, on the other hand, debate, debate, debate, hold x quantity of meetings and work with a slowdown scheme. At the end, this always yields better results.

1. Sweden has 2 million inhabitants. .
2. Stockholm has 500,000 people.
3. Volvo, Escania, Ericsson, Electrolux, are some of its renowned companies. Volvo even supplies NASA.

The first time I was in Sweden , one of my colleagues picked me up at the hotel every morning. It was September, bit cold and snowy. We would arrive early at the company and he would park far away from the entrance (2000 employees drive their car to work).

The first day, I didn't say anything, neither the second or third days. One morning I asked him, "Do you have a fixed parking space?

I've noticed we park far from the entrance even when there are no other cars in the lot."

To which he replied, "Since we're here early we'll have time to walk, don't you think that whoever gets in late will need a place closer to the door?" Imagine my face.

Nowadays, there's a movement in Europe named Slow Food. This movement establishes that people should eat and drink slowly, with enough time to taste their food, spend time with the family, friends, without rushing. Slow Food is against its counterpart, Fast Food and what it stands for as a lifestyle. Slow Food is the basis for a bigger movement called Slow Europe, as mentioned by Business Week.

Basically, the movement questions the sense of "hurry" and "craziness" generated by globalization, fuelled by the desire of "having in quantity" (life status) versus "having with quality", "life quality" or the "quality of being".

French people, even though they work 35 hours per week, are more productive than Americans or British. Germans have established 28.8 hour workweeks and have seen their productivity driven up by 20%..

This slow attitude has come to the notice of USA , the pupils of the fast and "do it now" brigade.

This no-rush attitude doesn't represent doing less or having a lower productivity.
It means working and doing things with greater quality, productivity, perfection, with attention to detail and less stress.
It means re-establishing family values, friends, free and leisure time.. Taking the "now", present and concrete, versus the "global", undefined and anonymous.
It means taking humans' essential values, the simplicity of living.
It stands for a less coercive work environment, more happy, lighter and more productive work place where humans enjoy doing what they know best how to do.

It's time to stop and think on how companies need to develop serious quality with no-rush that will increase productivity and the quality of products and services, without losing the essence.

In the movie, 'Scent of a Woman', there's a scene where Al Pacino asks a girl to dance and she replies, "I can't, my boyfriend will be here any minute now". To which Al Pacino responds, "A life is lived in an instant". Then they dance the tango!

Many of us live our lives running behind time, but we only reach it when we die of a heart attack or in a car accident rushing to be on time. Others are so anxious to live for the future that they forget to live the present, which is the only time that truly exists.

We all have equal time throughout the world. No one has more or less. The difference lies in how each one of us does with our time. We need to live each moment. As John Lennon said, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans".

Congratulations for reading this email till the end of this message.
There are many who will have stopped in the middle so as not to waste time in this "Globalized" world..

English Language: A classic transposition!!

P.S : His highness Bernard Shaw gave his entire property to do this years back. But no body madichified him then!

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troub lesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

As my friend was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the
fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a rope tied to their
legs. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from
the ropes they were tied to but for some reason, they did not. My friend saw
a trainer nearby and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just
stood there and made no attempt to get away.

³Well², he said,² when they are very young and much smaller we use the same
size rope to tie them and at that age, it¹s enough to hold them. As they
grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They
believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.² My
friend was amazed these animals could at any time break free from their
bonds but because the believed they couldn¹t, they were stuck right where
they were. The powerful and gigantic creature has limited its present
abilities by the limitations of its past.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life holding onto a belief
that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? How
many of us refuse to attempt something new and challenging because of our so
called MINDSET?

Your attempt may fail, but never fail to make an attempt...

Never Gif up when there is hope to go on - Real Story

Years ago, footage emerged from a remote village in India . The video shows a young girl receiving surgery to separate her fingers, which were badly burned and fused together. Why did this operation make headlines around the world? The surgery was performed by a 7-year-old boy named Akrit Jaswal.

Now 13 years old, Akrit has an IQ of 146 and is considered the smartest person his age in India -a country of more than a billion people. Before Akrit could even speak, his parents say they knew he was special.

"He learned very fast," says Raksha, Akrit's mother. "After learning the alphabet, we started to teach him joining of words, and he started writing as well. He was two."

At an age when most children are learning their ABCs, Akrit was reading Shakespeare and assembling a library of medical textbooks. When he was 5 years old, he enrolled in school. One year later, Akrit was teaching English and math classes.

Akrit developed a passion for science and anatomy at an early age. Doctors at local hospitals took notice and started allowing him to observe surgeries when he was 6 years old. Inspired by what he saw, Akrit read everything he could on the topic. When an impoverished family heard about his amazing abilities, they asked if he would operate on their daughter for free. Her surgery was a success.

After the surgery, Akrit was hailed as a medical genius in India . Neighbors and strangers flocked to him for advice and treatment. At age 11, Akrit was admitted to Punjab University .. He's the youngest student ever to attend an Indian university. That same year, he was also invited to London 's famed Imperial College to exchange ideas with scientists on the cutting edge of medical research.

Akrit says he has millions of medical ideas, but he's currently focused on developing a cure for cancer. "I've developed a concept called oral gene therapy on the basis of my research and my theories," he says. "I'm quite dedicated towards working on this mechanism."

Growing up, Akrit says he used to see cancer patients lying on the side of the road because they couldn't afford treatment or hospitals had no space for them. Now, he wants to use his intellect to ease their suffering. "[I've been] going to hospitals since the age of 6, so I have seen firsthand people suffering from pain," he says. "I get very sad, and so that's the main motive of my passion about medicine, my passion about cancer."

Currently, Akrit is working toward a bachelor's degrees in zoology, botany and chemistry. Someday, he hopes to continue his studies at Harvard University ..

Sardarji's Mom's Letter To Canada Wala Son

Sardarji's Mom's Letter To Canada Wala Son

Dear Banta
Vahe Guru !

I am in a well here and hoping you are in the same well there. I'm writing this letter slowly, because I know you cannot read fast.

We don't live where we did when you left home. Your dad read in the newspaper that most accidents happen 20 miles from home, so we moved 20 miles.

I wont be able to send the address as the last Sardar who stayed here took the house numbers with them for their new house so they would not have to change their address. Hopefully by next week we will be able to bring our earlier address plate here, so that our address will remain same too.

This place is really nice. It even has a washing machine, situated right above the commode. I'm not sure it works. Last week I put in 3 shirts, pulled the chain and haven't seen them since.

The weather here isn't too bad. It rained only twice last week. The first time it rained for 3 days and second time for 4 days.

The coat you wanted me to send you, your Aunt said it would be a little too heavy to send in the mail with all the metal buttons, so we cut them off and put them in the pocket.

Your father has another job. He has 500 men under him. He is cutting the grass at the cemetery.

Your uncle, Jetinder fell in a nearby well.. Some men tried to pull him out, but he fought them off bravely and drowned. We cremated him and he burned for three days.

Your best friend, Balwinder, is no more. He died trying to fulfill his father's last wishes. His father had wished to be buried at sea after he died. And your friend died while in the process of digging a grave for his father.

There isn't much more news this time. Nothing much has happened.

P.S: Beta, I was going to send you some money but by the time I realized, I had already sealed off this letter .

Can you read at first attempt

They're asking for Rs.10 Crores ransom, otherwise they're going to

May Your Day Be Blessed As Special As You

One day Maths teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name.

Then she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down.

It took the remainder of the class period to finish their assignment, and as the students left the room, each one handed in the papers.

That Saturday, the teacher wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and listed what everyone else had said about that individual.

On Monday she gave each student his or her list. Before long, the entire class was smiling. "Really?" she heard whispered. "I never knew that I meant anything to anyone!" and, "I didn't know others liked me so much," were most of the comments.

No one ever mentioned those papers in class again. She never knew if they discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exercise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with themselves and one another. That group of students moved on.

Several years later, one of the students was killed in

"Kargil" war and his teacher attended the funeral of that special student. She had never attended Funeral of a serviceman before. He looked so handsome, so mature.

The place was packed with his friends. One by one those who loved him took a last walk. The teacher was the last one to bless .
As she stood there, one of the soldiers who acted as pallbearer came up to her. "Were you Sanjay's math teacher?" he asked. She nodded: "yes." Then he said: "Sanjay talked about you a lot."

After the funeral, most of Sanjay's former classmates were there. Sanjay's mother and father were there, obviously waiting to speak with his teacher.

"We want to show you something," his father said, taking a wallet out of his pocket "They found this on Sanjay when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it."

Opening the billfold, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. The teacher knew without looking that the papers were the ones on which she had listed all the good things each of Sanjay's classmates had said about him.

"Thank you so much for doing that," Sanjay's mother said. "As you can see, Sanjay treasured it."

All of Sanjay's former classmates started to gather around. Arjun smiled rather sheepishly and said, "I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my desk at home."

Prithwiraj's wife said, " Prithwiraj asked me to put his in our wedding album."

"I have mine too," Rashmi said. "It's in my diary"

Then Deepali, another classmate, reached into her pocketbook, took out her wallet and showed her worn and frazzled list to the group. "I carry this with me at all times," Deepali said and without batting an eyelash, she continued: "I think we all saved our lists"

That's when the teacher finally sat down and cried. She cried for Sanjay and for all his friends who would never see him again.

The density of people in society is so thick that we forget that life will end one day. And we don't know when that one day will be.

So please, tell the people you love and care for, that they are special and important. Tell them, before it is too late.

And One Way To Accomplish This Is: Forward this message on. If you do not send it, you will have, once again passed up the wonderful opportunity to do something nice and beautiful. But its upto U to fwd this one.

If you've received this, it is because someone cares for you and it means there is probably at least someone for whom you care.

If you're "too busy" to take those few minutes right now to forward this message on, would this be the VERY first time you didn't do that little thing that would make a difference in your relationships?

The more people that you send this to, the better you'll be at reaching out to those you care about.

Remember, you reap what you sow. What you put into the lives of others comes back into your own.

May Your Day Be Blessed As Special As You

Indian Version of this old story

Old Story:

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter. The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

Indian Version of this old story:

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.
NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house.

Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter .

Mayawati states this as `injustice' done on Minorities.

Amnesty International and United Nations criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.

The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt
support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance) .

Opposition MPs stage a walkout. Left parties call for ' Bengal Bandh' in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.

CPM in Kerala immediately ask for a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and

Mamta Bannerji allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.

Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the ' Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act' [POTAGA], with effect from the beginning of the

Kapil Sibbal makes 'Special Reservation ' for Grasshoppers in Educational Institutions & in Government Services.

The Ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, its home is confiscated by the Government
and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.

Arundhati Roy calls it ' A Triumph of Justice'.

Mamta calls it 'Socialistic Justice '.

CPM calls it the ' Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden '

United Nations invites the Grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.

Many years later....

An Obituary printed in the London Times

Interesting and sadly rather true.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

Do not stay late in office

This is real scary! Read on…

Hi Parul,

I see you every night sitting in the office till very late. Don’t you have
friends? Don’t you feel like talking to your roommate?
You should not sit very late in the office. this is a genuine advice from
Rahul Mehra

After reading the mail, Parul was very angry on the sender. She simply
deleted the mail and said to herself “who is he to give me any advice?”.
She again got back to her work.
After that night, every night Rahul would keep sending her mails and Parul
would simply delete them without even reading the content of the mail. But
one fine night the subject line attracted her and she had to open the mail.
The subject line of the mail was “Hi Gorgeous”

Hi Gorgeous,
Yes today you are looking very gorgeous in this red saree. I know you don’t
read my mails as you don’t like the advices I give you.
So today I wont give you any advice, I will just say that I am love with
you. You know you are very beautiful and if you take care of yourself many
men will fall in love with you.
I am sure someday you will also fall in love with me. And then we will go
out for a date.
Oh before I end the mail I must tell you that the best thing about is that
smile. Or is it those intense which needs some sleep at the moment.
Take care dear.
Love you.
Rahul Mehra.

After reading the mail she was shocked. A person she had never met, never
seen, never spoke to was saying that he was in love with her. She started
thinking was this always in his mind. How did he get her id? Where had he
seen her? Many questions like this came in her mind. Finally she thought of
giving a warning and replied to his mail.

Hi Rahul,
I don’t want to spoil your career but if you don’t stop sending me mails I
will raise an ASHI against you.
Thanks and Regards,
Parul Jain

After this mail, the mails from Rahul stopped coming in Parul’s inbox. She
thought that finally Rahul has got scared and wont be mailing her again.
After several nights, Parul was resting on her chair and her eyes closed.
When she opened her eyes she saw Rahul’s mail in her mailbox.

Hi Gorgeous,
With your closed eyes you were dreaming about me, right? Oh sorry for not
sending any mails in the last few days.
I was a little busy. I am sure you would have missed me a lot.
One more thing before I forget I want to say that I am not scared of ASHI.
An ASHI cant be a reason to stop loving you.
Love you.
Rahul Mehra

Parul was twisting her hair and putting them behind her ears. At that
moment itself another mail came from Rahul,

Now stop playing with your hair and leave the office. it is very late.
Rahul Mehra

Parul was shocked as to how did this person know what she was doing on her
desk. She got up to check whether anyone was there in her floor but could
find only empty cubicles. She thought maybe he made a wild guess and
decided to leave the office. before leaving she saw another mail from

Hi Parul,
Searching for me??? You have started falling in love with me. J
Love you.
Rahul Mehra

Parul was shocked and scared to hell. She simply switched off her machine
and ran outside the office. in the next few days she would not open any
mails sent by Rahul. One night a mail with subject line “Don’t be scared of
me” came to her mailbox. First she thought to ignore the mail then she
thought lets see what has Rahul written this time.

Hi Parul,
Don’t be scared of me. I can say that you are scared of me because of the
way you ran out from the office the last time you read my mail.
I know few minutes back you had gone to have coffee. You are thinking how I
know this because I can feel you around me.
Only once you also start feeling me you will know that I am near to you.
Very near. Just sitting next to you.
I will wait for the night when you start having the same feelings for me.
Will always love you.
Rahul Mehra

Now Parul started thinking was Rahul really in love with her? What he was
saying was it true? But how could he know so much about her? How could he
say what she was doing and what not? Parul thought lets give a try and see
whether Rahul is always in love with her or not. From that night she also
started replying to his mail.

Hi Parul,
Do you feel bad if I call you gorgeous?
Love you.
Rahul Mehra

Parul’s reply:

Yes Rahul. I don’t like this word.
You can address me as Parul, isn’t it short and simple. and I love my name
a lot.
Thanks and Regards,
Parul Jain

Rahul’s reply:

Point noted Parul. But when I am happy, excited I would call you with some
special name at that time.
Tomorrow you have your certification so all the best for that.
Love you.
Rahul Mehra

Parul was again shocked as to how does he know about her certification. She
had never told him. She replied

Who is the person who is giving you details about me? I had not told you
about my certification how do you know it?
Thanks and regards,
Parul Jain

Rahul replied back to her

I know it because I in front of you. Cant you see me? Cant you feel me
close to you?
I also know that after 3 days you have your appraisal. Now this you have
not told anyone. Just your PM knows about it.
Do you think your PM will give me all these details?
Love you.
Rahul Mehra

Parul not sure of the answer. She knew her PM would not have told Rahul all
this but how did Rahul know so much about her was a mystery for her.
Finally she thought she will talk to her PM, Rohan.
Next day, she went to her PM’s desk. “Hi Rohan. I wanted to ask you
Rohan:- “Sure Parul. Are having any issues?”
Parul:- “No. actually I wanted to know about a person named Rahul Mehra.”
Rohan was shocked on hearing that name. PM:- “How did you come across this
name. has anyone told you about him?”
Parul:- “No one has said anything to me about him. Few days back he started
sending me e-mails. First I ignored but then he would give such details
which I did just few minutes back. He even knows my appraisal date.”
Rohan:- “Are you sure you got mails from Rahul Mehra only?”
Parul:- “Yes very much. But why do you looked shock?”
Rohan:- “Because Rahul Mehra died 2 years back. He use to sit at the same
place where you are sitting. How can a dead person send mails to you.”
Parul was shocked. She didn’t know how to react to this.
Rohan:- “If you don’t believe me then you can try finding his name in the
telephone directory. Maybe someone told you about him and because of work
stress you started imagining that he is sending you mails.”
Parul:- “I am not imagining anything. He has really send me a mail. I can
show you in my mailbox.”
Rohan:- “Okay Parul I believe you but still I think you should take a break
and go home.”
Parul was still in shock with the news she got from Rohan. She just did a
search on telephone directory for a name with Rahul Mehra and page returned
no records. She again checked the mail id and employee number details. She
did a search many times that day by putting various combinations but the
search page displayed the same message “No matches found for the given
search criteria”. She could not believe that someone could hack the system
and send mails to her from an non-existing id. She attached the mails sent
by Rahul and sent it to Rohan as a proof that she was not dreaming.
On seeing the attached mails even Rohan was in shock. He came to Parul’s
desk. Rohan:- “I think by mistake his id has not been deleted and someone
who knows about it is playing with it.”
Parul:- “But I checked the details on telephone directory there are no
records available for this id.”
Rohan:- “Talk to the CCD people and see what they have to say.”
She called up the CCD people. They took control over her system and looked
at the mail sent by Rahul Mehra. The mail was sent from the from the same
computer which Parul was using. The time stamp at which the mails were sent
Parul had logged in. Also there was no evidence that a remote desktop
connection was made or mail was sent through web mail. Even the CCD people
were clueless as to how a mail has been sent from a non-existing id and
from Parul’s system itself. There were no viruses or torjans or any other
kind of threats on Parul’s system. Her anti-virus was upto date. The whole
day was gone in finding a loophole as to how did Parul get such a mail in
her mailbox. Parul was tierd from the day’s happening and so she decided to
leave early from the office that day.
The next day when Parul came back, she saw a mail from Rahul Mehra. She
didn’t know whether she should delete that mail or read that mail. She was
scared to open the mail. Somehow she gained some courage and opened the
mail. The context of the mail was:-

Hi Parul,
Good to see that you left the office early tonight. I know Rohan told you
about my death.
I was also a workaholic like you. I would sit late in the office, even when
no one was around me.
I just being at office. I had no friends, no social life. Even on weekends
I would use to come to office.
I missed all the fun in my life. Even my death happened at office while I
was working.
My dead body was found by the house keeping guy and the security guard at
the reception.
I took a lot of work stress which my conscious mind could not bear that
day. I ignored all the health problems I was having.
And finally on that night (20. 10. 07, 11:24 PM) all these reasons became
responsible for my death.
Now you know why I am not scared of ASHI.
But yes if I was alive then also I wont be scared of ASHI because I have
really fallen in love with you but we cant be together until your death.
Now the choice is yours whether you will kill yourself on your own or
whether I need to do the honors.
Waiting for your death. Love you always.
Rahul Mehra

From greenpeace - stop another bhopal !

The Bhopal judgement is so unfair! The main accused have not been punished and the punishment for the others is insignificant. Even after witnessing this injustice the Government is only considering minor cosmetic changes to the nuclear liability bill so that foreign corporations stay happy.

The bill allows foreign corporations to get away by paying a meager compensatory amount in case of a nuclear accident in the country. The Bhopal case highlights how an American corporation remains untouched even after causing the deaths of over 25,000 people and affecting thousands more.

The liability bill in its current form is another injustice in the making and needs to be changed. More signatures will strengthen the opposition to this bill

Can send this email to your friends and family asking them to sign the petition?
Even with the injustices of Bhopal right in front of their eyes, the government seems to be merely considering cosmetic changes to the nuclear liability bill, that mean nothing.

The proposed bill appeases foreign corporations by allowing them to get away by paying a meagre compensatory amount in case of a nuclear accident in the country. The Bhopal judgment highlights the manner in which an American corporation has been so easily let off after causing the deaths of over 25,000 people and affecting thousands more.

We cannot let another Bhopal happen! Over 1.8 lakh people have already signed the petition asking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to stop the bill in its current form. More signatures will add strength to the opposition to this bill.

Sign the petition to help add more pressure on the PM..

The petition says: "India must hold a public consultation before changing the liability rules for any nuclear accidents caused by U.S. corporations."

The main accused for the Bhopal tragedy have not been punished, while the punishment for the others is paltry.

A nuclear disaster could be worse than what happened in Bhopal 25 years ago. Yet our leaders have set a compensatory amount lower than what was set for Bhopal.

If more and more of us sign this petition the government will know what the people of this country want and prevent another Bhopal in the making.

Facts about Love

What's Love?

When you are together with that special someone, you pretend to ignore
that person. But when that special someone is not around, you might
look around to find them.
At that moment, you are in Love.

Although there is someone else who always makes you laugh,
your eyes and attention might go only to that special someone.
Then, you are in love.

Although that special someone was supposed to have called you long back,

to let you know of their safe arrival,

your phone is quiet.
You are desperately waiting for the call!
At that moment, you are in love.

If you are much more excited for one short e-mail from

that special someone than other many long e-mails,

you are in love.

When you find yourself as one who cannot erase all the
emails or SMS messages in your phone because of one message
from that special someone, you are in love.

When you get a couple of free movie tickets, you would

not hesitate to think of that special someone.

Then, you are in love.

You keep telling yourself, "that special someone is just a friend",but
you realize that you can not avoid that person's special attraction. At that
moment, you are in love.

While you are reading this post, if someone

appears in your mind,

then u are in love with that person...)

Complexity of women

A man walking along a California beach was deep in prayer when all of
a sudden he said aloud, "Lord grant me one wish". The sky clouded and
a booming voice said, "Because you have tried to be faithful I will
grant you one wish." The man said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can
drive over anytime I want to".

The Lord answered, "Your request is very materialistic. Think of the
logistics of that kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach
the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take. I can
do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly
things. Take a little more time to think of another wish, a wish you
think would honor and glorify me".

The man thought for a long time and finally said, "Lord, I wish that I
could understand women. I want to know what they feel inside , what
they are thinking when they give me the silent treatment, why they
cry, what they mean when they say 'nothing', and how I can make a
woman truly happy?"

God took a deep breath and said, "YOU WANT TWO LANES OR FOUR ON THAT BRIDGE???"

when we feel so blue

Sometimes in life we feel so blue,
but someone somewhere is not happy as u.

Somewhere for at the border when a soldier slleps,
missing his loved once he silently weeps.

Somewhere a mother painfully sighs,
coz her new born baby didn't open her eyes.

Somewhere a poor dad silently cries,
when he sees his son begging for a bowl of rice.

Somewhere in an orphnage a little gal is sad,
when she missed her mom & dad.

So at times a reason to smile u may not have any,
Just say to yourself that u r happier than many
Coz life is so beautiful its not always blue & someone somewhere is
notas happy as u!

Remember Soon That, We have heart Too

It was a Sports Stadium.

Eight Children were standing on the track to participate in
a running event.

* Ready! * Steady!! * Bang!!!

With the sound of Toy pistol,

All eight girls started running.

Hardly had they covered ten to fifteen steps,

When one of the smaller girls slipped and fell down,

Due to bruises and pain she started crying.

When the other seven girls heard the little girl cry, they
stopped running, stood for a while and turned back.

Seeing the girl on the track they all ran to help.

One among them bent down, picked her up and kissed her

And enquired as to how she was…

They then lifted the fallen girl pacifying her.

Two of them held her firmly while all seven joined hands
together and walked together towards the
winning post......

There was pin drop silence at the spectator's stand.

Officials were shocked.

Slow claps multiplied to thousands as the spectators stood
up in appreciation.

Many eyes were filled with tears

And perhaps even GOD's!

YES.!! This happened in Seattle [USA],

All these girls had come to participate
in a Sports event for special children.

They were spastic

Yes, they were Mentally Challenged.

What did they teach the WORLD.?

Equality among all.??

Successful people help others who are
slow in learning
So that they are not left far behind.

This is really a great message... Spread it.!

We never do this because we have brains!

Once again the voice shouted, "Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step a car will run over you, and you will die."

The man did as he was instructed, just as a car came careening around the corner, barely missing him.

The man asked. "Who are you?"

"I am your guardian angel," the voice answered.

Everyone in the wedding ceremony was watching the radiant bride as her father escorted her down the aisle to give away to groom.

They reached the altar and the waiting groom; the bride kissed her father and placed some thing in his hand.

Everyone in the room was wondering what was given to the father by bride.

The father could feel the suspense in the air and all eyes were on him to divulge the secret and say something.

The whole audience including priest started laughing but not the poor groom

Welcome to Gulf Life - A Real Story

This is my story, may be yours...

2010, January 21, Sunday

A Letter not opened yet by an Expatriate

Dear Father & mother : Today I am completed 5 years in the Gulf. I am
decided to come at home next month. Within this 5 years, I have zero
balance apart from clear out my visa expenses and availed one vacation
before. Upon this vacation, I don't like to return Gulf. I have sound health
to do any manual job at home country.

Let me know your suggestion, Yours loving YYYYY.

Dear YYYYY, father writing : Received your letter and very happy to
know about your vacation. Rest will continue your mother. Dear son, Do you
know about the condition of our house? Rainy season, Nobody can to stay
inside the house. Repair and maintenance is very expensive with this old
wooden items, All are suggesting to prefer a concrete house. Without home,
do you know, there is no alternative. If you decided to stop Gulf, can you
do this with your limited income?. I am just reminding this, you can
decide what you like.

Yours loving mother.

Dear Mother, Now I am completed 10 years at this desert. I like to come

die after her marriage. Dont feel bad, I am not passing any burden to you,

Dear Mother and Zuhara (wife), Now I am completed 14 years at this January.
I fed up with this Gulf life. I can not continue more here. I am deciding to
cancel my Visa. Within the last four years, we could arrange the marriage of
Zainaba, which was done well with the help of Allah higher than our
expectation, and paid out all expenses related to her marriage.

Also settled my other loans too. Now I am deciding to settle at home and
start any job like light driving or similar. I can not do any heavy work,
because I have abnormal BP and Sugar. If I continue here, I am forced to pay
all my salary for medical expenses, so it is better to continue any Unani

brother ZZZ, your mother is totally against me. Now your mother is
depeding his wife for everything. Also I heard, your mother is planning to
give this house to your brother. If any dispute arises, where can we go
with our kids. If you are decided to settle home, can you possible to make a
house for our own. Do you know the price of steel and Cement and labour
charges, which is not affordable. I am just expressing my anxious, you can
decide yourself.

Yours loving Zuhara.

Dear Zuhara, Now I am completed 19 years at my gulf life. Within this
last four years, we built a new house with my effort which is higher than
your expectation. Now I have no balance, except the retirement benefit from
the compnay, i.e my final settlement around SR 25000/- Only that is my net
balance. Anyhow turning back, I have satisfaction, I could done something
for others. From now, I can not continue here. Last 19 years, I could not
understand what is a family life. Now I am deciding to settle home and I
wants to live with you and children. This month last, I am retiring from my

Dear my sweet loving: After reading your letter, I am very happy to know
about your dicision to discontinue the gulf life even you are late. But our
son requested me to write one thing to you. He like to join Engineering
course. He got an admission Card from Amritha Auto Engineering college,
Coimbatore. First year needs to pay 4 Lakhs (SR 40000/-) then each year 3
lakhs each. No need to pay cash down at one stroke, they agreed installment
payment. Students learning there are all expatriates sons. Fist
installment must pay on or before this 30th.

Expecting your reply soon, Yours loving Zuhra.

He spent a sum more for the education of his son and to get marry his
daughter, then now he completed 27 years. Now he is on the way to the
Airport with his ultimate balance of Blood Sugar, Blood pressure, back
pain and ulcer. On the way incidentally, he noticed a letter in his pocket ,
which he received from home, not opened yet.

That is the first letter he did not read in his Gulf life.

Programmer to Team Leader

Programmer to Team Leader :

"We can't do this proposed project. CAN NOT. It will involve a major
design change and no one in our team knows the design of this legacy system.

And above that, nobody in our company knows the language in which this
application has been written. So even if somebody wants to work on it, they
can't. If you ask my personal opinion, the company should never take these
type of projects."

Team Leader to Project Manager :

"This project will involve a design change. Currently, we don't have any
staff that has experience in this type of work. Also, the language is
unfamiliar to us, so we will have to arrange for some training if we take
this project. In my personal opinion, we are not ready to take on a project
of this nature."

Project Manager to 1st Level Manager :

"This project involves a design change in the system and we don't have much
experience in that area. Also, not many people in our company are
appropriately trained for it. In my personal opinion, we might be able to do
the project but we would need more time than usual to complete it."

1st Level Manager to Senior Level Manager :

"This project involves design re-engineering. We have some people who have
worked in this area and others who know the implementation language. So they
can train other people. In my personal opinion we should take this project,
but with caution."

Senior Level Manager to CEO :

"This project will demonstrate to the industry our capabilities in
remodeling the design of a complete legacy system. We have all the necessary
skills and people to execute this project successfully. Some people have
already given in house training in this area to other staff members. In my
personal opinion, we should not let this project slip by us under any

CEO to Client :

"This is the type of project in which our company specializes. We have
executed many projects of the same nature for many large clients. Trust me

Accept old people as they are By Sri Sri Ravishankar

Accept old people as they are By Sri Sri Ravishankar

Old people are no different from children. You should treat them like kids.
Like children, they are adamant and repeat the same things. They talk about
the same thing over and over again, without realising they have already said
it several times. When a pattern sets in them, you accept them as they are.
They are the best practical example for you to demonstrate that you have
followed the first principle of the Art of Living – “Accept people as they
are”. They come into your life and make you realise that. You cannot change
old people overnight, or even in a period of time. You need to accept them.

See, there is some wisdom in what they are saying. They speak from their own
experience, over the years. Understand that they have a different set of
experiences than yours. So don’t get upset if they don’t change. If you
accept them as they are, a miracle will happen. If you give them space, love
and compassion, they slowly start changing. But you need to have a lot of
patience. You will learn patience dealing with old people, with grannies,
who have certain patterns.

Also, don’t take their moods too seriously. If they’re upset, don’t take it
too seriously because then, you won’t be able to communicate with them.
Don’t try to convince them. Sometimes, they just want to pour out their
heart to you. If they are grumbling, they are just grumbling. They’re saying
it, but they don’t really mean it. If they say, “I’m so upset” – they may
say it, but they will still go and have their food, watch television and do
all their things – but when they see you, they say, “Oh, I’m so upset, I
never ate food, I didn’t do this, I didn’t do that”. If you take all their
complaints seriously, you become miserable, and won’t be able to help them.
You should realise it’s only their way of communicating. People who are very
aged or sick just want to communicate with you, but what is it that they can
share? When people don’t have enthusiasm, they will only share their
grievances. That doesn’t mean that they are purely miserable. There is a
corner in them that is untouched by any amount of misery. Whether it is
extreme joy, happiness or misery, there is a part in every human being that
remains untouched.

It is the same with people who appear to be very miserable. In reality, they
are not that miserable, but they talk, talk, talk and talk. Especially when
you know that someone cares for you, you don’t always go to him (or her)
with a smile and with joy. You go to him (or her) with all your problems and
complaints. This is the normal course of things in the world. Isn’t that so?

There is a nice story. A man earned a lot of money and then gave all his
property to his son. When his son got everything, he built a small out-house
behind the main house for his parents and he told them, “Now you have to
stay there”. So the old couple stayed there, while their son and his family
started living in the big bungalow. One day, while playing, the grandchild
came into his grandfather’s home, where everything was old and in a very
poor, pathetic condition – old utensils, old chairs, all unwanted goods.
Things that could break at any time were kept in that house. So the
grandchild came and told his grandpa, “Grandpa, be careful with your plate
and your chair. Don’t break them!” When he asked why, the child said,
“Because tomorrow, my father needs all this.” The child’s father heard this
and was shocked. That little boy saying, “Grandpa don’t break it because
tomorrow, when I grow older, I’m also going to send my father here. So
better save this.”

One does not realise this fact. You are also going to be old one day and are
going to be like them. I tell you, if you’re on the path, in the knowledge,
and if you keep doing your meditation and the breathing exercises, your
ageing reverses. That enthusiasm to learn will exist and your alertness,
focus, attention – everything – increases in life. You will not become
cynical and senile as you advance in age.
